Five Trips for the Flyfisher
Let your flyfishing dreams come true with one
of five distinct outings offered year-round by Captain Adrian LaSorte, an
expert flyfisher and full-time professional guide. Depending
on the time of year, Adrian offers anglers a unique opportunity to
pursue world-class gamefish on some of America's most storied
waters.
-
From February to mid-April, Adrian sets up for
spectacular bonefish, permit, redfish and
tarpon outings on the saltwater flats
surrounding Tavernir on the Florida Keys...
-
From mid-April through September, Adrian moves to New
York's Catskill Mountains, where he sets up on the West Branch of the
Delaware River, rated as one of the top ten wild trout fisheries in
the nation and the best in the East.
-
From September through December, Adrian moves
to the tributaries of Lake Ontario, where he fishes for trophy-sized
steelhead, king and coho salmon.
Adrian offers flyfishers the full-range of angling
opportunities, from classic wade and flats boat fishing in the Keys
to streamside and driftboat outings on the Delaware
tailwaters and the Ontario tribs.
He also provides his clients with the best flyfishing
tackle in the land, with rods and reels from Sage, Orvis, Loomis and
Winston. Here's a look at five distinct outings offered during the year:
The
Battlin' Bone: (Feb. 1 - April 15)
From his home slip on Tavernir Key, Adrian guides clients in
pursuit of record bonefish, permit, tarpon and redfish.
Whether you prefer to fish from the platform of a fully-equipped
flats boat, or wade the flats, Adrian offers access to some of the world's
most productive water.
Costs: Full Day, Flats Boat: -- $500
for one or two anglers.
Half Day - $400.
The Delaware Drift: (April
20 -
October 31)
Recognized as one of the ten best trout
fisheries in America, the Upper Delaware River system offers the flyfisher a choice of
fishing one of three outstanding rivers -- the West Branch, the East Branch and the Main
Stem of the Delaware River.

While time of year, insect hatches and river conditions can make the
call on what river to fish easy, each of these rivers offers a unique fishing experience
for wild browns and rainbows that average 12 to 18 inches, and occasionally measure in
excess of 20 inches. Its your choice between a day-long float on a beautiful river,
or a series of stops at streamside hot-spots.
The May Bonus:
In May and early June, the three rivers have runs of shad that can provide a
reel-smoking thrill for the flyfisher in search of something different.
Costs: $375 for driftboat fishing for one or two.
Lunch included.
$450 for three. Lunch is included.
Half Day, $300.

The Beaverkill Flyfisher: (April
20 - September 30)
For those who want to ply the streams
where Theodore Gordon introduced the art of flyfishing in America, the sparkling waters of
the Beaverkill and the Willowemoc rivers have an attraction that goes well beyond the
feisty browns, rainbows and brookies that inhabit them. These historic Catskill streams
are virtual fixtures in angling literature, and with good reason: They provide excellent
angling in settings that set the muse ablaze in all of us. Barring unusual conditions, the
mayfly and caddis hatches are steady and predictable, and the dry fly aficionado
can experience a truly unforgettable day when the timing is right. This is streamside
fishing only.
Costs: $375 for two. Lunch included.
$450 for three. Lunch is included.
Half Day, $300.

The Slammin Salmon:
(September 1- December 31)
If youve never experienced the
arm-numbing strength of a trophy-sized steelhead, king or coho salmon, New Yorks
Salmon River can provide you with a fishing workout that will create a lifetime memory.
Clearly one of the best in-land salmon fisheries in America, this Ontario Lake tributary
near Pulaski, NY, routinely produces steelhead of up to 15 pounds, king salmon of 30
pounds and more, with cohos often tipping the scales at between 10 and 15 pounds.

We fish for them from streamside and driftboat, and when theyre "in and
running" the fishing is unbelievable. The Brown Bonus: In early fall, lake-fed
brown trout run side-by-side with the cohos and kings, and can provide an eye-popping
bonus for the day.
Costs: $375 for two.
$450 for three.
Half Day, 300.

The
Susquehanna Bass-h (July 1 - August 30)
If you're looking for a change of pace from the steady
pursuit of trout, Captain Adrian LaSorte has added a new outing to his creel of trips for
the flyfisher -- the Susquehanna Bass-h. This mid-summer trip takes you along a
picturesque, 20-mile stretch of the Susquehanna River, where leapin' smallmouth bass
are the quarry. We often hook up with bass that go three to five pounds. Huge
hatches of white flies and a wide array of other insect life provide plenty of action for
the flyfisher -- on top and below. This is a trip that can make even the most ardent
trout angler think twice about how to spend his or her time on those hot days in July and
August. Try a day on the Susquehanna. It's a bass-h.
Costs: $375.00 for two.
$450 for three. Lunch is included.
Half Day, $300.
